ASSISTANT SCIENTIST, ANALYTICAL SCIENCES & TECHNOLOGY

 

Emergent BioSolutions is currently seeking an Assistant Scientist, Analytical Sciences & Technology for our Bayview location. The select candidate will have a bachelors degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or in anther related scientific discipline, 3-5 years of relevant experience and an advanced knowledge of cGMP’s, safety and data integrity as relevant to a QC laboratory. Must have excellent written communication skills including ability to write reports for method verification/qualification/validation. Experience with LIMS and SAP is preferred. In addition, this individual will possess a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence and innovation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

 

This position will support assay development, method validation and technology transfer operations driven by the Analytical Sciences and Technologies group at Emergent Bayview.  The position will report into AS&T and work directly with AS&T and QC members in the Quality Control laboratories to support laboratory activities.  These activities include and are not limited to hands on execution of methods, inventory management, ordering supplies and reagents, and general operations in a GMP laboratory.  Additional responsibilities include assisting in planning and executing of validation protocols and reports as well as Quality Notifications. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Participates in assay development, method validation and technology transfer
  • Performs analytical methods such as cell-based potency assays, qPCR, HPLC and SDS-Page methods, among others
  • Documents experiments and key activities in appropriate forms or scientific notebook according to company policy
  • Analyzes and formats data to support method evaluation and trending
  • Maintains AS&Ts Sharepoint site
  • Supports QC Laboratory operations such as sampling and maintaining QC laboratory systems
  • Assists ordering of supplies and materials, purchasing equipment, preparation of documents, providing training, coordinating schedules and working with other Emergent sites, departments and collaborators.
  • Provides data review to ensure data integrity and adherence to standard operating procedures and cGMP’s
  • Performs investigations studies, when necessary
  • Assists in equipment and instrument qualification, calibration, and preventive maintenance, as assigned
  • Support writing and revisions to SOPs and reports
  • Provide project updates and feedback to management and peers independently
  • Works closely in collaboration with other associated functional groups
  • Performs duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or closely related scientific discipline with 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Must possess knowledge of and experience with cell culture, qPCR and HPLCs
  • Advanced knowledge of cGMPs, safety and data integrity as relevant to a QC laboratory
  • Experience in executing phase appropriate method qualifications and validations
  • Knowledge of viral based delivery systems and the methods used to analyze them is highly desirable
  • Experience with LIMS and SAP is desired
  • Excellent written communication skills including ability to write reports for method verification/qualification/validation
  • Excellent verbal communications with manager and inter- and intra-department colleagues
