I. JOB SUMMARY
The Analyst I Microscopy or Microscopist I, QC Microbiology position supports the Quality Control group at Emergent BioSolutions Camden Campus to maintain process optimization, microbiology laboratory and manufacturing activities. The Analysis I, Microscopy is responsible for isolating and analyzing particles and fibers. This person is also responsible for communicating with a cross functional team of Forensic Laboratory (EBOL), Camden Manufacturing and Camden QA. They support manufacturing by making particle defects for test sets. They will be assigned testing duties for routine EM or plate reading, to support Microbiology laboratory, as required. Typical hours are 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Hours may vary to meet business and training needs.
II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Extract small particles from samples.
• Isolate and mount small sized particles from liquid and solid samples.
• Isolate particles using filtration method on vials and stoppers
• Review, analyze, interpret and report data from isolated particles.
• Analyze common particulate such as fibers, hair, paint, plastic, glass, metals, etc using Polarized Light Microscopy.
• Practice Good Documentation and Laboratory Safety Procedures per the Standard Operating Procedures.
• Support department compliance and productivity goals.
• Participate in meetings as required.
• Track time worked per project.
• Make defects to maintain Packaging VI test sets.
• Perform testing and documentation review for Microbiology laboratory, when required. Perform environmental monitoring and utility testing of the facility, when required.
• Perform daily checks on equipment.
• Stock the lab on a daily basis.
• Cleaning the lab and equipment.
• Write and review SOP’s and Testing Standards as necessary.
• Participate in and attend professional seminars, conferences and conventions.

III. MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
Education: A minimum of a B.S. in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field
Experience: Minimum of 0-2 years experience in a microscopy or forensic laboratory. GLP/GMP experience is preferred. LIMS or SAP experience is preferred.
Knowledge: College-level knowledge of microscopy or forensic science principles is preferred or college-level knowledge of general chemistry or biochemistry principles knowledge acceptable.
Skills: Can perform at an intermediate level of Excel and Word. Must possess knowledge of table building in Excel and formatting in Word. Must be able to write legibly and accurately and contemporaneously record work in written and/or electronic form. Prior experience with microscope and stereomicroscope preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills required. High level of motivation and independence. Skills with LIMS, Adobe, OneNote, etc. preferred.
Abilities: Must possess dexterity in both hands. Effective verbal and/or written communication, the ability to complete daily tasks as assigned, the ability to improve processes, the ability to work independently and in a group, the ability to multi-task, and the ability to train on and learn computer-based programs and systems. Proven demonstration of qualifications related to Excel, Word, LIMS or SAP systems is preferred, including course work. Must possess strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
