JOB SUMMARY 
The Associate Scientist I will be a member of Drug Substance department within Development Services focused on Upstream Process Development. Contribute to the logistics/planning/execution of experiments for the Drug Substance Support Team activities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities will include:
•    Ordering/maintaining common stock inventory 
•    Work with fellow scientists in determining material requirements for upcoming experimental runs (short term and long term):

  • Work with Purchasing to place necessary orders and contact vendors/suppliers to forecast material delivery dates
    • Identify alternatives when possible if delivery dates are too far out 
  • Prepare media/buffers as needed by fellow scientists  

•    Work with fellow scientists for the execution of Upstream process experimental protocols for developing/optimizing upstream manufacturing processes. 

  • Take samples during bioreactor runs 
  • Perform basic analysis of data of bioreactor runs 

•    Maintain cell culture seed trains (passaging) 
•    Coordinate Preventative Maintenance (PM)/repair activities with facilities to ensure all equipment are in working order
•    Assist with the preparation of Operational and Maintenance Equipment SOPs and Development Batch Records.
•    Review of documentation such as Detailed Technical Plans, Technology Development Reports, and Technology Transfer Protocols.

 Additional responsibilities will be:

•    Assist with lab organization and maintenance
•    Actively participate in 6S activities
•    Maintain a laboratory notebook and other relevant documentation
•    Desire to learn Excel based application development including Macros and Visual Basic Applications (VBAs)

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
•    B.S. in biology, biochemistry, engineering or related discipline with 0-3 years of related experience. 
•    Knowledge of basic cell culture preferred 
•    Hands on experience using cell culture and fermentation production equipment including cell stack and roller bottles, AMBR microreactors, iCELLis reactors, standard 1 to 10 L reactors like the Sartorius series, and GE SUBs, as well as centrifugation and various filtration systems preferred but not required.
