Project Manager

I. Job Summary

 

The Project Manager is responsible for managing development projects ranging from pre-clinical to Phase 3 or PPQ.  This position requires significant customer interaction, leading cross-functional projects teams, and collaborating with internal stakeholders.  To support successful project execution, the Project Manager is accountable for integrating the needs and requirements of the customer into the project plan and communicating this information to the Development Services team members from Drug Substance, Drug Product, and Analytical Development in addition to the Project Management Office (PMO) for Emergent’s Manufacturing sites as required. In addition, the Project Manager will be responsible for milestone tracking, forecasting, and invoicing in collaboration with finance and accounting.   This role can be remote with a monthly onsite team meeting at the Gaithersburg, MD office.

 

Finally, the Project Manager will be responsible for recommending and driving continuous improvement efforts within the Development Services PMO. 

 

II.  Essential Functions

  • Responsible for managing existing and new client relationships.
  • Ensure the dissemination of the client requirements related to the approved proposal within the Development Services team, working with the operations leads to assign and schedule the tasks related to the introduction of new projects within the site.
  • Facilitate project execution, including: ensuring regular communication with clients and internal stakeholders, leading recurring project meetings and issuing meeting documentation including agendas and minutes, managing the project team, tracking milestones per the project plan using Project Management software, and tracking and mitigating project risks.
  • Develop project plans and timelines with input from customers, appropriate Development Service team members, and also the manufacturing PMO as required for the project.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope and initiate change orders promptly for tasks outside the project scope.
  • Responsible for the project budget, including: planning, cost/resource implications of the proposed work plans, and tracking expenditures.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders. When needed, working with operations and development team leads, delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel. Provide guidance to cross-functional teams to achieve goals in accordance with established policies, cost, and schedule guidelines.
  • Collect deliverables as required for the project. Ensure that all necessary project documentation is completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with requirements.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts with/within the project team.
  • Establish and recommend changes to procedures which affect the department, site, or area of responsibility. 
  • Work independently. Prepare regular project updates for the site leadership team to review and measure performance based on meeting objectives and schedules.
  • Frequently interact with department head, external contacts, internal stakeholders, and other functional peer group managers and senior management.
  • Prepare and conduct presentations of technical information within the department, across functional areas to clients, and to senior management concerning specific projects/schedules.
  • Manage & track information for various assigned department collateral duties (e.g. on time delivery tracking, forecasting, financial audit support and response coordination, training coordination, etc.)
  • Be a significant contributor to continuous improvement efforts at the site level.
  • Maintain suitable information on department best practices and ensure dissemination and feedback to other project managers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

III.  MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or business; MBA highly desirable
  • And/or a minimum of 5 years of experience in Project Management within process development/bioprocess manufacturing or suitable equivalent experience; CDMO experience preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Project and/or Smartsheet required
  • PMP certification preferred
