Emergent Biosolutions is seeking for a highly motivated individual to join the Product Development team and will report directly to the Sr Scientist, Product Development. This successful candidate will focus on performing analytical assays to screen stable vaccine formulations and developing formulations and processes to support manufacturing of vaccine drug product. This position supports projects ranging from pre-clinical to Phase III candidates, and life-cycle management of commercialized products.

The candidate will participate in development work and provide analytical support, including but not limited to: 

•    Analytical analyses support for formulation and process development studies and scale-up
•    Tracking and performing biological, biochemical, and chemical analyses of in-process and finished drug product for evaluation of stability
•    Performing routine assays and analytical laboratory functions based on SOP (e.g. ELISA, BCA, DLS, pH, Osmolality, SDS-PAGE, etc.)
•    Training on project-specific assays and be able to train others
•    Ensuring compliance with GLP, laboratory safety and other regulatory guidelines
•    Reviewing data obtained and reporting abnormalities, troubleshooting independently.
•    Writing and reviewing SOP and other related GLP/GMP documentation
•    Analyze data independently and draw conclusions based on solid scientific rationale, and communicate with team or cross-functionally
•    Working in a team-based environment and providing technical/analytical supports to other Scientists and Research Associates with flexibility and adaptability

Education: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical development, molecular biology, or a related field is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience in formulation and product development at a biopharmaceutical industry

Knowledge: Applicant should be familiar with GMP and GLP guidelines, how to keep a laboratory notebook, and concepts of molecular biology assays such as PCR/ELISA/TCID50

Skills: Strong benchtop skills, proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong assessment and problem-solving skills, teamwork skills, and strong organizational skills


•    Follow company policies and procedures (SOPs) to complete assignments
•    Safely handle BSL2 organisms (virus like particles, virus, bacteria)
•    Ability to perform characterization assays for formulation development, such as DLS, pH, Osmolality, Moisture content, Disintegration, UV-Vis, Intrinsic Fluorescence measurement
•    Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, e.g. ELISA, Western Blot, PCR, SDS-PAGE is required.
•    Design, execute and interpret experiments with a high degree of reliability and independence is preferred
•    High capability of multitasking and handling multiple projects at the same time in a fast-paced environment
•    Collaborate with team members on shared objectives
•    Ability to organize development stability studies and manage samples
•    Present data to colleagues
•    Troubleshoot complex problems
•    Experience with handling Virus like particle (VLP), Adenovirus, live-attenuated virus and bacterial formulations is preferred
•    Experience with liquid and lyophilization is preferred
