JOB SUMMARY 

Emergent Biosolutions is seeking for a highly motivated individual to join the Drug Product Development (DPD) team and will report directly to the Sr. Manager, DPD. This successful candidate will focus on formulation development, process development, and assay supports for clinical phase to post-commercial stages.

The candidate will participate in development work and provide analytical support, including but not limited to: 

•    Participate in development work and provide analytical support for the vaccine formulation development. Key example includes but not limited to BCA, ELISA based immunoassay, UV-Vis, HPLC, SDS-PAGE, Karl Fischer Titration, and particle characterizations. 
•    Preparing reagents and formulation buffers to support lab functions
•    Supporting formulation screening and scale-up activities for project teams with cross-functional collaboration
•    Training on project-specific assays and be able to train others 
•    Maintain a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and safety procedures
•    Ensuring compliance with GLP, Document laboratory work consistent with company requirements and other regulatory guidelines
•    Troubleshoot and optimize development protocols when necessary
•    Make detailed observations, consistently analyze data and interpret results to make scientifically valid conclusions
•    Write and revises standard operating procedures (SOP), development protocols and reports.
•    Writing and reviewing SOP and other related GLP/GMP documentation
•    Working in a team-based lab environment. Work productively with other team members as well as on independent assignments

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

•        Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmaceutical development or a related field.

•         2+ years of relevant experience in formulation and product development in a biopharmaceutical industry

•        Must be familiar with GMP and GLP guidelines, how to keep a laboratory notebook, and concepts of assays for vaccine characterization such as HPLC/ELISA/TCID50, etc

•        Strong benchtop skills, proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong assessment and problem-solving skills, and strong organizational skills

Abilities:

•    Design, execute and interpret experiments with a high degree of reliability and independence is preferred
•    High capability of multitasking and handling multiple projects at the same time in a fast-paced environment
•    Experience with handling Virus like particle (VLP), Adenovirus, live-attenuated virus and bacterial formulations is preferred
•    Ability to organize development stability studies and manage samples
•    Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, e.g. ELISA, BCA, HPLC, SDS-PAGE, is required.
•    Ability to perform characterization assays for formulation development, such as DLS, pH, Osmolality, Moisture content, Disintegration, UV-Vis, Intrinsic Fluorescence measurement
•    Experience with novel drug delivery system, and multiple formulation dosage forms is recommended but not required
•    Knowledge of Design of Experiment (DoE) and statistical analysis tools is a plus
