JOB SUMMARY 

The Senior Director of Federal Government Affairs plays a key role in the government affairs team, responsible for developing and executing the organization's federal advocacy strategy, engaging with key policymakers, and advancing legislative and regulatory priorities. This role partners  with Congress, federal agencies, and industry stakeholders to influence policy outcomes that align with the organization's objectives. Working from our DC office, the Senior Director will lead a team, manage external lobbying efforts, and provide strategic counsel to executive leadership on federal government affairs and policy.

•    Develop and implement a federal government affairs strategy to advance the organization's policy priorities.
•    Provide strategic leadership for the department. Review and track federal legislative and regulatory activities. Develop proactive issues agenda, and help to lead reactive issues management, in collaboration with cross-functional leaders.
•    Build and maintain relationships with members of Congress, congressional staff, federal agencies, and key industry stakeholders.
•    Monitor and analyze federal legislative and regulatory developments, assessing their impact on the organization.
•    Educate and engage internal employees on key policy issues that impact the organization.
•    In collaboration with Public Affairs, develop policy positions, strategies to influence federal legislative activity.
•    Manage external consultants to achieve policy and legislative goals.
•    Oversee the Compliance Portfolio for U.S. Government Affairs which includes monitoring and implementing compliance of campaign finance laws including managing campaign finance attorney and ensuring state, local and federal compliance.
•    Promote an ethical culture including, but not limited to, compliance with applicable lobbying, campaign finance and disclosure laws.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in government, public policy or political science. MA or JD preferred.
 
Experience: More than 8 years of experience in government relations, Capitol Hill or political campaign activities, and more than 5 years of experience of successfully working in government relations, preferably in the healthcare or defense industry. Demonstrated success in developing and executing federal advocacy strategy. Experience in managing a team and consultants.
  
Skills: Proficient in MS Office Applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook   
Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders. Ability to work collaboratively across the organization; self-motivated, independent self-starter; Excellent written communication skills; Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects including action items, timelines and budgets.  Strong leadership and team management experience. 
 

 

U.S. Base Pay Ranges and Benefits Information

The estimated annual base salary as a new hire for this position ranges from $234,500 to $283,700. Individual base pay depends on various factors such as applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.  The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.  Certain roles are eligible for additional incentive compensation, including merit increases, annual bonus, [and/or long-term incentives in the form of stock options.]
